INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

RHP (cancer treatment)
Expected return: Late May
Hendriks met with the media on May 3 after announcing on his Instagram on April 20 that he is cancer-free and in remission. He began a rehab assignment on May 5 with Triple-A Charlotte and had back-to-back outings on May 10 and 11, having thrown five innings in six games overall. He will return to Chicago on May 18 or May 19 and sit down with the team to see how they will proceed. Manager Pedro Grifol doesn't expect Hendriks to return to the Majors the weekend of of May 19 in Chicago.

"There is no blueprint to this. I cant say that enough," Grifol said. "We’ll sit down with him, see how his body feels, how his arm feels. And we’ll make adjustments to what we have, whatever we need to do. It could be the beginning of next week the end of next week, we’ll just see. Have to wait and see. He feels good."

"There's no taking it easy," Hendriks said. "If I go out there and I give up a hit, I'm still going to be pissed. If I go out there and walk somebody, I'm still going to be pissed. If I go out there, it's going to be the same mentality that I have. And that's the only way I've been able to do what I've done the last couple of years, is by having that mindset that there are extremely high expectations." (Last updated: May 17)

2B (left oblique strain)
Expected return: TBD
The veteran infielder hurt himself on a swing during a 5-1 loss to Houston on May 12 and was placed on the injured list on May 13. The extent of his absence is unknown at this point.

"It’s hard to evaluate that right now," White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. "You have to wait a few days to see how that settles down and then see where he’s at. See how much pain there still is there and how he recovers. That’s going to be a slower process. We’ll have to evaluate that probably a few days from now." (Last updated: May 13)
